Classique La Musicale

The Manufacture Breguet is delighted to present the Classical “La Musicale” watch. Based on the new Breguet self-winding movement incorporating an escapement and a flat balance-spring in silicon, La Musicale houses a fabulous patented musical mechanism. Many years of work were required to achieve such a result. The watch plays its crystal-clear tune either by the user pressing a push piece positioned at 10 o’clock, or at a given time that is pre-set for a melodic reminder. This is achieved by a patented application of a music-box mechanism principle. A disc carrying the pins replaces the traditional music-box cylinder and alternately acts on the 15 metal teeth of the comb. A metallic glass membrane engine-turned by hand enriches this exceptional mechanism and serves to amplify the frequencies required to emit the tune, as well as guaranteeing water resistance. The materials chosen for the comb and the membrane, representing fundamental factors in ensuring superlative sound quality, stem from extremely sophisticated research made possible by the constant development work conducted by Breguet in the field of acoustics. Optimal sound transmission is ensured by several openings drilled in the gold case protecting the membrane. To enhance listening pleasure, the model is equipped with the first magnetic strike governor in watchmaking history. This patented system, equipped with magnets isolated within the cage, manages to eliminate background noise as well as the characteristic wear typical of classic strike-governors. The dial, which is connected to the pin-bearing disc, performs a complete turn during the 20 to 25 seconds while the tune is being played. The meticulous care Breguet lavishes on details has led it to develop an ingenious system serving to prevent the start of a dial rotation in case of insufficient power reserve, displayed at 3 o’clock. This means the piece of music will always be played in its entirety. This concern for detail is also reflected on the caseband, which is finely adorned with musical notes instead of the usual fluted pattern. Such an exceptional model naturally deserved an exceptional presentation box… The latter is crafted in resonance wood. Resonance spruce is the main type of wood chosen by luthiers as the vibrating membrane on stringed instruments. Found in the Risoud forest of the Joux Valley, home to the House of Breguet, it remarkably amplifies the tune of La Musicale. This model is an authentic work of art perfectly enshrining the Breguet values of refinement, elegance, understatement, as well as innovation and technical sophistication. Its legitimacy is also firmly rooted in the history of the brand, since the long list of Breguet’s distinguished patrons includes composers such as Gioachino Rossini, Sergei Rachmaninov, and Arthur Rubinstein. Moreover, Breguet has been associated for several years now with famous musical events and institutions such as the Lucerne Summer Music Festival, the Geneva International Music Competition, and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Through this new creation, Breguet continues to cultivate the prestige and exclusivity that make this venerable House the living embodiment of European art and culture.

Who's who

It’s a rare occasion: when asked “Why have Breguet at Chronopassion?” Laurent Picciotto is visibly stuck for a quick answer. But the asker scarcely has time to savour his narrow victory before Laurent quickly recovers: “It goes without saying. We can’t do without Breguet. Breguet invented everything – or nearly,” before evening the score with one of his characteristic aphorisms: “beauty is eternal.” The relationship between Chronopassion and Breguet is now firmly established and very promising – but things were not always so. After having been at 271 Rue Saint Honoré for almost a quarter of a century, Breguet suddenly became the focus of special attention a few years ago when a very particular event occurred – the sale of the brand to the Swatch Group. “I stepped back a bit in order to observe what was happening: initially, it seemed to me that the image of the Group and that of the grand old lady of watchmaking were not really compatible,” recalls Laurent Picciotto. Within a few months, however, he was reassured: “Hayek senior adopted Breguet as his baby. He immediately grasped the magnitude and weight of its history. Within two or three years, he clearly stated his desire to develop it, whilst remaining committed to its great tradition. Breguet is not just any old brand. It constitutes a whole swathe of the history of watchmaking in its own right.” The developments undertaken by the Swatch Group were completely consistent with Chronopassion’s approach: preserving capital whilst constantly adding something new, in keeping with the founder’s original wishes. In the end, over the years, Breguet has successfully presented historic yet contemporary watches, at amazingly attractive prices. “Breguet continues to be a benchmark. Its timepieces are quite simply of perfect design. Every register is covered, from ladies’ watches through to military chronographs, raised to new heights by the brand in its approach to the Type 20,” concludes Laurent Picciotto. “Here in the twenty-first century, Breguet is still very much a force to be reckoned with.”
