Czapek , quai des Bergues , N°33 bis

The Czapek Quai des Bergues N°33bis is a tribute to François Czapek’s N°3430 pocket watch manufactured in Geneva around 1850. The dial, with its elongated Roman numerals, is in an exceptional version of grand-feu enamel, with a rare domed shape, giving it a special brilliance. Each dial features a secret signature by François Czapek, a safeguard against counterfeiting. A personal sentence written on the dial that is only visible when the sun hits it at a certain angle can be engraved.
The modern watch features the SXH1 Caliber, a proprietary double-barrel mechanical hand-wound movement. The sandblasted bridges, the hand finished angles and the open ratchet pay homage to its predecessor. The watch boasts the same clean “face” and the characteristic sub-dials at 7:30 and 4:30. The former displays a small second, the latter shows both the days of the week and the seven-day power reserve with a unique “double hand”. The extremely delicate Fleur de Lys hands that sweep the elegant clock face were a challenge to re-create. These solid gold hands required a special tool with a 0.1 millimeter radius.

On November 10th, 2016, the Quai des Bergues N°33bis has been awarded with the coveted Public Prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, rewarding the founders’ work, persistence and passion.

Who's who

In November 2015, following an intense three-year period of research and development, three enthusiasts of art, crafts, and watchmaking relaunched Czapek & Cie with an exceptional collection where craftsmanship and respect to the initial founder go hand in hand. The Polish watchmaker François Czapek, born in Bohemia, was an associate of Antoine Norbert de Patek, a fellow Pole. Both men lived in Switzerland. His prized timepieces were hard to come by and were much coveted by the nobility back then. Napoleon III, Emperor of France, even granted him the title Horloger de la Cour Impériale (Court Watchmaker).

To finance the projects, the three company leaders designed an innovative funding system using the crowdfunding sites in three different jurisdictions, a world premiere. “This way we fully share our passion and adventure,” says the company cofounder and CEO, Xavier de Roquemaurel. “It’s incredible to think that you actually can be an owner of the brand and participate in the creation of the models. It’s unique in our industry.”

The company Czapek & Cie is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
