THE JAPANESE EXCELLENCE

  • A RETRO-MODERN MECHANICAL GMT

This model incorporates Caliber 9S86, the high-specification movement delivers the same accuracy (-5 to +3 seconds a day) and the same power reserve ( 55 hours) as the core Caliber 9S85, while also offering the GMT function that the international traveler needs to ensure that the accuracy of the time shown is not compromised when the time zone is changed. The GMT hand shows the time in the home time zone.

Designed in harmony with the classic case, the retro-modern dial is inscribed with a 1/5 second scale that is unique to a 10 beat model. The result is a design finish that is both fine and elegant.

The long and slim markers provide a clean and refined expression.

  • THE 9S86 CALIBER

Pulling the crown out by one notch enables the hour hand to be adjusted without stopping the second hand so that the highly accurate timekeeping delivered by the Hi-Beat 36000 is not lost. Caliber 9S86 is the embodiment of the Grand Seiko ideal of high accuracy, maintaining exceptional precision in both the essential time display and the GMT function.

  • ABOUT THE 9S85 BASE CALIBER

In Seiko's 10 beat movement, the balance wheel that controls the accuracy of the mechanical watch oscillates 10 times per second. This is equivalent to 36,000 oscillations per hour, which earns it the name "Hi-Beat 36000". Ordinary movements beat at a rate of 21,600 oscillations per hour (6 per second) or at 28,000 per hour (8 per second). You can clearly tell that the 10 beat movement has the higher number of beats per unit of time.

Grand Seiko's challenge to re-introduce the legacy of the 10 beat movement gave rise to Caliber 9S85, the first movement of its kind in 41 years. The redesigned hairspring and mainspring complement cutting-edge MEMS technology to raise precision and reduce component weight, simultaneously improving durability and securing the torque necessary to maintain a rate of 36,000 oscillations per hour. The movement is practical and reliable, with a maximum power reserve of about 55 hours.

HEART AND SOUL OF A REAL MANUFACTURE

To obtain the title of a real Watchmaking Manufacture , a watchmaking company must be able to manufacture and perfect itself, down to the smallest detail, all its components, from the designs of the movement to the polishing, until their final assembly.

Grand Seiko is a real Manufacture. They design, manufacture and assemble, with their master watchmakers in their own workshops in Japan, all the pieces of every single watches.

The beauty of a timepiece lies above all in the precision of its manufacture. Precision of the order of a thousandth of a millimeter, and a millionth of a gram for each of our components.

Over the years, we continue to grow while adopting our own approach to watchmaking.

Through rigorous work and unwavering dedication, we have been able to achieve revolutionary innovations, such as the Spring Drive movement. Our constant commitment has also earned us pioneers in the field of the Quartz watch, and achieve the highest aesthetic finesse through unique techniques, such as Zaratsu polishing.

PRECISION : THE INITIAL OBJECTIVE

The first Grand Seiko was unveiled in the world on December 18, 1960. This is the first model on which appears the brand Grand Seiko, positioned under the index of 12 hours.

This engraving marks the beginning of a long history, punctuated by innovations, pushing back all the limits previously established in terms of precision, thus pursuing the quest for the perfect watch.

By the end of the 1960s, Grand Seiko mechanical watches already had exceptional precision. A precision such as during the prestigious competition organized by the Geneva Observatory in 1968, our tempers are among the 7 best mechanical movements.

THREE MOVEMENTS

For Grand Seiko, time is measured at the rate of 3 types of movement: mechanical, quartz and Spring Drive.

The excellent of Grand Seiko begins with the choice of raw materials. The combined talents of our elite master craftsmen, coupled with state-of-the-art manufacturing technology, ensure that each timepiece is kept operating at a level of perfection.

Corollary of this high technological precision, the Grand Seiko style is defined by a timeless refinement, whose secret lies in an elegant and refined aesthetic.

JAPANESE AESTHETICS: THE SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

Fans. Screens. Wood panels and rice paper ...

In Japan, land of contrasts, an infinity of shades separate the shadow of light. According to Zen philosophy, the shadow is as important as the light, because only the shadow allows the light to express itself.

A simple form composed of a flat part and a curve, allows to reflect the light and to reveal infinite expressions. The Grand Seiko style is based on this Japanese sense of aesthetics. A natural sophistication, inspired by the act of observation and appreciation of nature.

WHEN ELEGANCE AND FUNCTIONALITY GET PERFECTLY

Each case is designed to reflect the smallest ray of light. Each facet is polished by hand, giving it this mirror-polished look.

A clear, harmonious, unique aesthetic, which tells you that you have before you a Seiko Grand, attractive, pleasant to wear, perfect readability, and practical par excellence.
