Breguet Marine 5517
The story of Breguet and the open waters is one that goes back to the earliest days of the eponymous watchmaker’s illustrious career. Abraham-Louis Breguet was appointed chronometer maker of the French Royal Navy in 1815, a distinguished role for the French watchmaker.
The Breguet Marine collection has long been a part of the brand’s lineup, paying homage to the days when marine chronometry was at the pinnacle of mechanical innovation, and to the brave spirits that explored the seven seas in unchartered territories.
Adding contemporary, sporty nuances without sacrificing the classical Breguet design traits and uncompromising quality, the Marine collection was revamped in 2017 starting with an exceptional and complex piece, the Marine Équation Marchante. Then in 2018, Breguet introduced the entire new Marine collection, including the three-hand Marine 5517.
While perhaps the simplest model in the current Breguet Marine lineup, the Marine 5517 is far from unimaginative. Presenting a total redesign that isbothcontemporary as well as elegant, the Breguet Marine 5517 is made to worn in every occasion, and boasts a water resistance of 100 meters.
Measuring 40mm wide, the rose gold case, adorned with Breguet’s iconic flutedcaseband, gleams beautifully with its mix of polished and satin finished surfaces. Lightweight, durable and hypoallergenic, Titanium is an ideal choice for an adventurous watch.
The dial, made of solid gold, silvered and decorated with different motifs. The circumference of the dial is circular satin-brushed, with applied polished Roman numerals filled with SuperLuminova. Thecenter of the dial is engraved with a wave pattern, above which the reimagined signature Breguet “apple” shaped hands with larger tips filled with SuperLuminova turn.
Visible through the sapphire crystal display back, one can admire the in-house manufactured Breguet Calibre 777A beating within. Innovative and robust, the movement is fitted with an inverted in-line lever escapement with silicon pallet lever, as well as a silicon balance hairspring. As a nod to its nautical inspiration, the rotor is made in the form of a ship’s wheel. When fully wound, the movement delivers a power reserve of 55 hours.
Fixed to the uniquely shaped angular lugs, the Breguet Marine Alarme Musicale comes on brown alligator leather strap, adding an elegant touch to the timepiece.
