The majesty of the moon in the inimitable Breguet Classique watch vein. The Breguet Classique 7787 watch offers a novel yet timeless interpretation of the moon phase complication that is a staple in the Breguet lineup of classic watches.
The 39mm round case if the Breguet Classique watch, crafted in rose gold or white gold, is inherently Breguet in its styling, with the signature delicately fluted case band on the side of the thin case, and a small yet easily usable crown signed with the classic Breguet “B”. The Classique case also features a discrete corrector button on the caseband for precise setting of the moon phase complication of the automatic Breguet movement.
Whimsical, classical and typical of Breguet watches from the past and present, the dial is the centrepiece of the Breguet Classique 7787 watch. Made by hand in white grand feu enamel on a gold base, the dial of the Breguet Classique is nothing short of breathtaking. The placement of the poetic moon phase is unusual yet harmonious, just below the 12 o’clock marker. Just like in antique pocket watches and clocks from the time of Abraham-Louis Breguet, the design of the moon in the moonphase disk depicts a face in the middle of a starry night sky. The stark white grand feu enamel dial of the Breguet Classique watch requires multiple firings in a kiln oven to reach the right tone, texture and evenness. As the base of the dial is solid gold, which can slightly transform when heated, only the hands of expert artisans are capable of producing true grand feu enamel dials found in the Breguet Classique collection of traditional and classic watches.
The hour markers, fashioned in Breguet Arabic numerals, are then painted onto the enamel dials and fired again in a kiln oven, as is the power reserve indicator, arching between 5 and 6 o’clock of the Classique watch dial. Each hand is flame-blued and shaped in the traditional Breguet “apple” form, providing a beautiful contrast and legibility against the white grand feu enamel dial of the Breguet Classique watch.
Visible through the sapphire crystal on the back of the Breguet Classique gold case, the automatic manufacture Calibre 591 DRL beats within the Breguet Classique 7787 watch. Featuring Haute Horlogerie decoration such as côtes de Genève or Geneva stripes on the bridges with bevelled edges, a guilloche engraved motif on the solid gold rotor and polished screws throughout. Like in all Breguet watches, the movement is the work of micromechanical art in its own right. It also boasts high-performance features such as a silicon escapement lever, as well as a flat silicon balance spring, operating at a frequency of 4Hz. When fully wound through its automatic winding mechanism, the Breguet Classique 7787 provides a power reserve of 38 hours.
The Breguet Classique 7787 in rose gold comes on a brown alligator leather strap, while the white gold version of the watch is fitted on a black alligator strap. Both versions provide a uniquely romantic rendition of the moon phase complication in a style that is the living heritage of Breguet watches.
