Octo Finissimo Titanium

The Bvlgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Titane (Titanium) Watch

In the last ten years, Bvlgari Watches Rome, headed by CEO Jean Christophe Babin, has accomplished the seemingly impossible. It is perhaps hard to believe today, but the iconic Italian style house originally founded by Sotirous Boulgaris  was known solely as that: in a very short period of time, building on the acquisitions of legendary watch making names including Daniel Roth S.A. and Gerald Genta S.A. which were made prior the arrival of Jean Christophe Babin, Bvlgari Watch of Rome has been able to conjure an entire universe of world beating ultra thin watches in the form of the brand’s Octo Finissimo Series, a rapid and seemingly unending quest for the very best in multi complication watches  which combine motifs of ancient Rome and Leonardo da Vinci’s renaissance Italy with the technical prowess of Switzerland based production and unmistakable contemporary Italian style, producing along the way landmark watches including the world’s thinnest tourbillon wristwatch, with the ultra thin Bulgari Watch Rome Octo Finissimo Tourbillon (2014), the world’s thinnest minute repeater movement and case, with the ultra thin Bulgari Watch Rome Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater (2016), the world’s thinnest automatic movement and case (courtesy of a clever micro rotor system) with the ultra thin Bulgari Watch Rome Octo Finissimo Automatic (2017), the world’s thinnest automatic tourbillon case and movement watch, with the ultra thin Bulgari Watch Rome Octo Finissimo Automatic Tourbillon, and then, in 2019, the world’s thinnest mechanical automatic chronograph movement and case, with the ultra thin Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Chronograph. Watchmakers such as Piaget, with their Altiplano range, have attempted to fight back against the Octo Finissimo Legion, but even their ultra-thin watches have struggled to make the impact created by Bvlgari. Against this backdrop, it is very easy to lose track of some of the watch models along the way, but which nonetheless are true classics in their own right. One such watch being the Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Titane, or Octo Finissimo Titanium as it is known to English speakers. Many connoisseurs, and not only those with a particular appreciation for Bulgari watches, now regard the Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Titanium as a genuine classic, a real gem that notwithstanding its lack of a minute repeater, chronograph or tourbillon complication, and as a hand wound rather than automatic design, particularly in light of its highly understated titanium case and strap type bracelet.

The Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Titanium shares its DNA with that of the Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Small Seconds first presented at Baselworld in 2014, with a thin 40mm multifaceted titanium case with faceted lugs, black dial with open worked dauphine style hours and minutes hands with the small seconds placed between 7 and 8 o’clock, the ultra-thin BLV128 manual winding rather than automatic movement offering a 65 hour power reserve, power reserve indicator and water resistance down to 30m. Making use of the in house designed Bulgari Watches Rome caliber BVL128, the original limited edition manual wind Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Titanium case and movement was to lead a rather short life before the spotlight moved onto the skeletonized version of the same ultra thin  BLV128 Caliber movement, in the form of the BLV128SK and the Bvlgari Watches Rome Ultra Nero Skeleton, in a slightly redesigned case with improved 3D transparency, as demanded by a skeleton movement.

The Octo Finissimo range in titanium was to receive a considerable shot in the arm with the introduction of to the Bulgari Watches of Rome Octo Finissimo range of the world record-breaking caliber BVL138 automatic (automatique originally) movement, the thinnest automatic movement and case combination ever made at the time of its introduction, and the perfect accompaniment to the sandblasted titanium multifaceted case layout, Arabic numeral dial watch with hours, minutes and small seconds subdial display that had proven so well regarded in both the Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Small Seconds and Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Titanium. The sandblasted titanium case Octo Finissimo Ultra Thin Automatic and the 36.6mm Bulgari Caliber BVL138 that powers it, features a 40mm case size, and an ultra-thin 2.23mm thickness, sufficient space for the platinum micro-rotor and automatic winding train (which is on the same plane as the main plate).  The Caliber BVL movement is clearly visible through the transparent sapphire crystal watch case back, and quite rightly so, as it features some exquisite Haute Horlogerie finishing including Cotes de Geneve embellishment, chamfered edges and a deliciously circular grained mainplate. As you would expect from the ancestry the Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Ultra Thin Automatic shares with the Octo Finissimo Small Seconds and Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Titanium, with case, crown (with ceramic insert), and dial all sandblasted or brushed titanium, the titanium dial featuring black PVD treated hands, with a bracelet complementing the case in a choice of either titanium with folding clasp or black alligator leather with a titanium pin buckle. As is common with the other Bulgari Watches Rome which shares the same genetic history, the small seconds display subdial is offset between 7 and 8 o’clock on the main dial face. When you consider the addition of the small second's subdial display and the automatic self-winding mechanism courtesy of the platinum micro-rotor assembly, for Bvlgari to achieve a 55-hour power reserve in a watch that is only 2.23mm thick including its case remains a stunning achievement.

That Bulgari Watch of Rome, with its  Bulgari Octo Finissimo collections of limited edition watches, has been able to make the incredible series of milestones in ultra-thin watchmaking, including the thinnest tourbillon movement and watch case combo, thinnest minute repeater movement and watch case combo, thinnest automatic movement and watch case combo, and thinnest chronograph movement and watch case combo, while at the same time placing the world of ultra-thin multi complication watches in the mainstream, speaks volumes for the abilities of the Rome based brand. The Bulgari Octo Finissimo range of watches are masterpieces in ultra-thin watch design, and whether your preference is for an automatic watch, minute repeater watch, tourbillon watch, chronograph watch or the understated simplicity of a model such as the Bulgari Watches of Rome Octo Finissimo Titanium or the Bulgari Watches Rome Octo Finissimo Ultra Thin Automatic, Bulgari is certain to have a watch that you can aspire to.
