Niton is my watchmaking revelation of 2026! Beyond its radically designed jumping hour, it’s above all the aesthetic approach applied to the movement that excites me. A mechanical architecture conceived as a true object of contemporary design—a territory still too little explored in watchmaking. A real stir in the industry! The little “tick” with each hour change and the ingenious stop-to-zero system of the small seconds hand add to the pleasure. This is exactly the kind of discovery that gives my job as a talent scout its true meaning!
A Different Way of Seeing and Hearing Time
With the Prima in rose gold, Niton revives a Geneva-based watchmaking brand founded in 1919, reviving the jumping hour mechanism that had defined its history since 1928. But behind this nod to the past lies a watch whose design is profoundly contemporary.
The in-house NHS01 caliber is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing expressions of this revival. Visible through the sapphire case back, it reveals a mechanical architecture designed with true aesthetic sensibility. The arrangement of the components, the construction of the bridges, and the organization of the volumes deliberately depart from traditional conventions. The movement becomes a design object in its own right, with a distinct graphic personality, while retaining the exacting finishes associated with the Geneva Seal.
The Prima also offers an auditory surprise. At every hour, the mechanism produces a characteristic little “tock” that accompanies the jump of the hour disc. This brief and discreet sound transforms a typically silent mechanical event into an almost tactile experience. A complication that can not only be seen but also heard.
Adding to this originality is a stop-to-zero mechanism applied to the small seconds hand. It allows the wearer, when setting the time, to stop the hand and reset it to zero in order to synchronize the watch with precision.
The Totem display, which combines a jumping hour, minutes, and small seconds in an unusual arrangement, completes this unique approach to time-telling. Rose gold lends a distinctive warmth to the overall design, creating an alluring contrast with the geometric precision of the mechanics.
Limited to 19 pieces, the Niton Prima Or Rose embodies a vision of fine watchmaking in which history serves as a starting point for a new creation, rather than a model to be replicated.
