Niton is my watch revelation of 2026! Beyond its radically designed jumping hour, it’s above all the aesthetic approach applied to the movement that excites me. A mechanical architecture conceived as a true object of contemporary design—a realm still far too little explored in watchmaking. A real stir in the industry! The little “tick” with each hour change and the ingenious stop-to-zero system of the small seconds hand add to the pleasure. This is exactly the kind of discovery that gives my job as a talent scout its true meaning!
Niton Prima Platine – Historic Mechanics with a Resolutely Contemporary Design
Founded in Geneva in 1919, Niton is returning to the forefront of the watchmaking scene with the Prima, a watch that reinterprets its heritage without succumbing to nostalgia. Inspired by a jumping-hour display developed by the manufacture in 1928, this creation combines a nearly century-old complication with a mechanical and aesthetic design that is particularly contemporary.
The Prima’s uniqueness is not limited to its dial and Totem display. It is also evident on the back of the watch, where the in-house caliber NHS01 reveals a surprisingly modern architecture. Far removed from the traditional constructions of haute horlogerie, the movement favors a graphic and structured design, in which the mechanical components play a full role in the piece’s visual identity. It is a true work of design applied to mechanics, without compromising the finishing standards of the Geneva Seal.
Another distinctive feature is that each hour change is accompanied by a small mechanical “tick”—as discreet as it is unexpected. This audible signal marks the instantaneous jump of the hour and lends this complication an additional, almost lifelike dimension. It offers a way to perceive the passage of time beyond mere sight.
The Prima also features an ingenious mechanism for resetting the small seconds hand to zero, known as stop-to-zero. When setting the time, this mechanism allows the seconds hand to be stopped and reset to zero, facilitating precise synchronization with a reference time.
Housed in a modestly proportioned platinum case, this limited edition of 19 pieces strikes a particularly successful contrast between the nobility of the Geneva watchmaking tradition and a resolutely contemporary mechanical expression.
A watch that does more than simply revive Niton—it invents a new identity for the brand.
