Laurent Picciotto sees in the 1958 Tinkler Steel the rare charm of a quarter-hour repeater with a delightfully vintage style.
The rebirth of an iconic quarter-hour repeater watch
With the Tinkler 1958 Steel, Angelus brings back to life one of the rarest and most unique watches from its horological heritage. Inspired by a historic model unveiled in the late 1950s, this limited edition reinterprets the spirit of the first water-resistant automatic quarter-repeater wristwatches.
Produced in a limited run of just 25 pieces, the Tinkler 1958 Steel embodies Angelus’s historic expertise in the world of striking complications, while retaining the understated and functional elegance of vintage timepieces from that era.
A quarter-repeater watch faithful to the spirit of the 1950s
The 38mm stainless steel case echoes the balanced and refined proportions of classic 1950s watches. Its understated profile, elegant lugs, and box-shaped sapphire crystal reinforce its particularly successful neo-vintage character.
At 9 o’clock, the push-button dedicated to the quarter-hour repeater visually echoes the crown at 3 o’clock, creating a symmetry characteristic of the original model. A single press activates the mechanical chime, which indicates the elapsed hours and quarters through a clear and precise acoustic sequence.
The slightly domed white sunburst dial stands out for its faceted hour markers and details directly inspired by the historic 1958 model. The markers at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock feature an original shape reminiscent of exclamation points, an aesthetic signature unique to this model.
The Angelus A600 Caliber: Mechanical Tradition and Acoustic Sophistication
At the heart of the Tinkler 1958 beats the new Angelus A600 in-house caliber, a self-winding mechanical movement specially developed for this sound complication.
Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz and offering a 70-hour power reserve, this quarter-hour repeater movement combines contemporary precision with the great Swiss watchmaking tradition.
The finishes attest to the care taken with every detail: The whole reveals an authentic approach to mechanical haute horlogerie, faithful to Angelus’s historical heritage.
- palladium-plated bridges decorated with Côtes de Genève,
