Laurent's opinion
The RS23 is the Harmonic Oscillator in its purest form: radical, precise, without artifice. A piece for connoisseurs, carved down to the essentials.

Description

The natural evolution of the Harmonic Oscillator

Since its unveiling at Baselworld in 2009, the Rudis Sylva Harmonic Oscillator has continued to amaze and fascinate. Considered by many master watchmakers and specialist journalists to be “an invention as important as Breguet’s tourbillon,” or even “better than a tourbillon,” this patented mechanism has turned the established rules of fine watchmaking upside down.

At the heart of this feat are two balance wheels with opposing teeth which, thanks to their synchronized operation, instantly cancel out the effects of Earth’s gravity when the watch is in a vertical position. Unlike the classic Tourbillon, which requires a full minute to compensate for these disturbances, the Harmonious Oscillator acts in real time.

The RS23: a simplified version with the same efficiency

With the RS23, Rudis Sylva offers a refined interpretation of its founding invention. Here, the two toothed balance wheels are fixed—they no longer rotate in a cage as in the “Tourbillon” version. And yet, performance remains intact: the chronometric imbalances generated by gravity are still neutralized immediately.

This choice of a more sober design allows for a new form of horological expression, without compromising on precision. A return to the essentials, which enhances the mechanics while preserving its soul.

An exceptional piece in a titanium case

The RS23 is available in a titanium case, a technical material par excellence, which is lightweight, robust and resolutely contemporary. This version stands out for its assertive, modern look, while highlighting the traditional, refined finishes that are the hallmark of Rudis Sylva.

The bridge of the Harmonious Oscillator is decorated with a “flinqué” guilloché pattern designed by Georges Brodbeck, winner of the 2023 Gaïa Prize. This exceptional work, carried out by hand using a guilloche lathe equipped with various roses, enhances the architecture of the movement. Engravings, chamfered corners, fluting and sunburst finishes complete this handcrafted ensemble of rare finesse.

An exclusive creation from the watchmaking region of the Jura

Rudis Sylva takes its name from the village of Les Bois, formerly known as Rudis Sylva, in the heart of the Franches-Montagnes region. This village, the cradle of Swiss watchmaking, was home to iconic families such as the Baume, Clémence and Huot families. Today, the brand continues to draw inspiration from this centuries-old heritage, embodied by a community of enthusiasts, craftsmen and visionaries.

Total independence

Rudis Sylva is an exception among independent brands: its movement is developed entirely in-house. No modified base calibers, but a complete creation, from concept to production. This independence guarantees a radical, free approach, faithful to a tradition of expertise rooted in the Swiss Jura.

Watches and Wonders 2025

Unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2025, the new RS23 Titanium has won hearts with its consistency, boldness, and strong identity. Fifteen years after the first Rudis Sylva watch, this lighter version of the Oscillateur Harmonieux affirms a new maturity in watchmaking—without compromising on exclusivity.

The RS23 collection is available in three versions: rose gold, titanium, and DLC titanium. Each configuration is limited to just eight pieces. A manifesto of rarity, driven by an uncompromising vision of watchmaking.
