Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Zeitgeist 1665 ST25-RF.ZG
Resonance is one of the most fascinating topics in the history of watchmaking. Armin Strom has not only succeeded in making it work, but has also managed to make it stable and suitable for everyday use. This Zeitgeist 1665 tells the story of this technical adventure with a rare harmony between history, mechanics, and design.
Zeitgeist 1665: The Ultimate Expression of Resonance According to Armin Strom
With the Mirrored Force Resonance Zeitgeist 1665, Armin Strom has created one of the most fascinating interpretations of the resonance complication ever made. This limited edition of just 25 pieces celebrates both the pioneering work of Christiaan Huygens in 1665 and one of the greatest technical advances in contemporary watchmaking: the mastery of a stable, durable resonance that is resistant to everyday disturbances.
The Zeitgeist 1665 is part of a unique approach. It imagines what a resonance wristwatch might have been had 17th-century watchmakers possessed the knowledge and technologies necessary to overcome the challenges that long limited this mechanical feat. The result is a watch that seems to come from a parallel history, where resonance would have revolutionized the measurement of time several centuries before our era.
At the heart of this creation beats the ARF21_ZG in-house caliber, equipped with two independent regulating organs connected by the famous resonance clutch spring developed and patented by Armin Strom. This architecture allows the two balance wheels to synchronize naturally while maintaining their stability in the face of motion, temperature variations, and micro-shocks.
The significance of this innovation is considerable. Since Christiaan Huygens’s first observations in the 17th century, resonance has always fascinated watchmakers due to its ability to improve timekeeping accuracy. Yet, until recently, resonance systems remained particularly sensitive to external disturbances. In 2016, under the leadership of Claude Greisler, Armin Strom took a decisive step forward by developing a system capable of maintaining this synchronization over the long term, even under real-world conditions while worn on the wrist.
This technical feat is housed in an elegant 43mm stainless steel case with balanced proportions. The off-center dial in 18-karat white gold highlights the symmetrical architecture of the movement while offering an intuitive readout of the hours, minutes, and paired seconds. The rose gold PVD-coated bridges add depth and contrast to the ensemble, while the handcrafted finishes attest to the expertise of the Biel-based manufacture.
As always with Armin Strom, every component receives special attention. Hand-polished bevels, mirror-polished screws, circular graining, Côtes de Genève, and ring-graining are executed according to the traditions of Swiss haute horlogerie, even on elements that are invisible once the watch is assembled.
Produced in a limited edition of just 25 pieces, the Mirrored Force Resonance Zeitgeist 1665 represents much more than a complication watch. It embodies the culmination of a centuries-old horological quest and demonstrates that major innovation can still advance the very foundations of timekeeping.
