DSTB 42 Platinum Salmon: Elegance Reinvented

Beating a New Bar

Arnold & Son brilliantly revisits one of its most emblematic collections. The DSTB 42 model, for “Dial-Side True Beat”, showcases its deadbeat seconds mechanism on the dial side. Beneath finely openworked and bevelled gold bridges, the emblematic anchor animates a seconds hand with an ample, measured rhythm. The case and movement of this timepiece have been completely revised and improved, underlining Arnold & Son’s commitment to marine chronometers.

A tribute to marine chronometers

The deadbeat second is a historic feature of the instruments delivered by John Arnold to Her Majesty’s Navy. The escapement beat at one oscillation per second, naturally indicated by the second hand. From this precision, Arnold & Son created one of its signature complications, the “True Beat”. The DSTB 42 features this mechanism on the dial side, offering a perfect fusion of watchmaking, design and spectacle.

Mechanical perfection

Every deadbeat second relies on a dedicated mechanical system. No wristwatch escapement operates at the native frequency of one oscillation per second. The second hand of the DSTB 42 jumps from second to second, driven by an innovative mechanism developed by Arnold & Son.

Exquisite design

Highlighting this deadbeat second is crucial for Arnold & Son. Placing this mechanism on the dial side creates an extra level in the caliber. Three dedicated, openworked, three-dimensional bridges, crafted in white gold, bring an aesthetic singularity to the dial. This mechanism occupies the space, balanced by the off-center white opal hour dial.

Horological spectacle

The movement of the deadbeat seconds mechanism, regular and aesthetic, captures attention. It illustrates Arnold & Son’s horological mastery and maritime roots, with an anchor-shaped counterweight reminiscent of marine chronometers. This mechanical ballet governs the large seconds hand.

New Dimension

The DSTB collection, founder of the Arnold & Son catalog, originally measured 44 mm in diameter. The DSTB 42 version enhances these dimensions with an A&S6203 caliber, 5.54 mm in height and 55 hours of power reserve. The case is now 42 mm in diameter and 12.95 mm thick.

Distinctive details

The DSTB 42 Platinum Salmon features a 950 platinum case and a PVD-treated rose gold dial, nicknamed “salmon”. The sunray dial, with its origin in the center of the deadbeat seconds, enhances the overall look.

New Caliber

Calibre A&S6203, developed, machined, assembled and adjusted by Arnold & Son, powers the DSTB 42 Platinum Salmon. Featuring automatic winding thanks to a 22-carat gold oscillating weight, this caliber offers a 55-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

Discover timeless elegance and watchmaking innovation with Arnold & Son’s DSTB 42 Platinum Salmon, a watch where every second is a work of art.
