Amber in a watch? It took nerve. But above all, it had to be done with the respect that is demanded by a material as alive as it is ancient. Arnold & Son do not just sublimate it - they pay homage to it. The HM Steel Amber is the poetry of fossilized time in the service of watchmaking rigor. Unexpected, precious, essential.

When thousand-year-old amber becomes the soul of an exceptional watch
The Arnold & Son HM Steel Amber is more than a luxury watch — it is a fragment of geological history, captured in light. Its dial, sculpted from Baltic amber, is a fossilized resin dating back over 30 million years. Vibrant, translucent, and utterly unique, this natural material transforms time into an experience. With this piece, Arnold & Son blends high watchmaking with rare organic beauty.
A Dial of Natural Baltic Amber: Rare, Vivid, Alive
Baltic amber is the result of a millennia-long fossilization process of conifer resin. Light, fragile yet resilient, and rich in texture, it is seldom used in watchmaking due to its scarcity and complexity. On the HM Steel Amber, it takes center stage — a nearly untouched dial, set in an ultra-slim stainless steel case measuring 39.5 mm. The result is a timepiece where natural material and minimalist design converge in perfect harmony.
A Limited Edition Born from Careful Selection
To craft the 38 numbered pieces in this limited series, Arnold & Son began with a 1.6-kilogram block of fossilized amber. Yet each block is unpredictable — no one can tell what lies within. Cylinders are carefully extracted, cut, and inspected individually. Only the most solid and aesthetically pleasing slices are selected for the final dials.
Each dial is absolutely unique, enhanced by a rich pairing with an imperial green alligator leather strap — a color that subtly blends with the amber’s natural hues for a seamless visual experience.
Inside: The Ultra-Thin, In-House Calibre A&S1001
To match the refined elegance of the dial, Arnold & Son equips the HM Steel Amber with one of its most iconic movements: the hand-wound A&S1001 calibre. Entirely developed, manufactured, decorated, and assembled in La Chaux-de-Fonds, this ultra-thin movement stands just 2.7 mm high, allowing for a slim case profile of only 7.82 mm.
With a power reserve of 90 hours and a 3 Hz frequency, the movement offers both precision and endurance. On the caseback, the level of finishing is exceptional: radiating Côtes de Genève, a fully perlage-decorated baseplate, and polished bevelled angles reflect the maison’s dedication to horological craftsmanship.
A Singular Collection, A Material-Driven Vision
The HM collection from Arnold & Son is reserved for pure, complication-free timepieces that celebrate exceptional materials. After working with charoite, specular hematite, and meteorite, the brand now introduces natural amber into high horology with unprecedented elegance.
With HM Steel Amber, Arnold & Son opens a new chapter in its exploration of time through matter — where organic substance, timeless design, and mechanical mastery come together in a highly limited edition.
