ARNOLD & SON Nebula 38 Steel

Constructed like radiant stars, the Nebula explodes with light. Created in two case sizes, they inaugurate a new color scheme alternating black DLC and steel. The structure of their skeleton caliber is even more striking. The symmetrical elegance of the Nebula collection is launched into a new orbit. Arnold & Son shines through its mastery of watchmaking, its appreciation of detail and the strength of its design.

Since its birth, Nebula has been a star. Its stellar mechanism, the A&S5201 caliber, is the gravitational force behind this collection. It gives it its appearance, its identity and its strength. Now redesigned with a movement featuring more advanced finishing than ever, the Nebula collection continues to expand.

Volumetry

The Nebula case is available in two sizes, 41.5 mm or 38 mm in diameter, and its remarkable slenderness is measured in a height of just 8.73 mm. It is cut from stainless steel.

Relief

Arranged in a star shape around the circumference of the caliber, openworked, bevelled and satin-finished, the bridges give the impression of a horological explosion, but also a sense of rhythm and mastery. Set at regular intervals, identical in shape but different in size, these bridges are rooted in the aesthetic heritage of John Arnold’s chronometers. They also illustrate Arnold & Son’s manufacturing expertise.

Layouts

In space, light never exists alone; it coexists with black. Nebula, a stellar-inspired watch, naturally plays with this chiaroscuro. It combines contrasting shades of rhodium and black. The black is a DLC treatment. By applying it to the skeletonized plate, barrels and flange, Nebula enhances the relief of its A&S5201 caliber. Its construction is clearly legible in levels, with the bridges in the foreground, the gear train and barrels in the background, and the mainplate behind them.

Graphics

Viewed from the back, the A&S5201 calibre takes on a different dimension. Two large crossed arcs, also DLC-treated, reveal a second graphic structure, that of the mainplate. The highly openworked plate is also chamfered, with Arnold & Son’s signature “Rays of Glory” pattern running across its surface.

Mastery

Like all movements used by Arnold & Son, the A&S5201 caliber was entirely developed, manufactured, decorated, assembled, adjusted and cased at the La Chaux-de-Fonds factory. This caliber features a pair of large barrels and an oscillation frequency of 3 Hz, providing a power reserve of 90 hours. Moreover, its height of 4.18 mm is exceptional for a skeleton watch. Indeed, open movements generally retain a certain thickness to compensate for the openwork that weakens their structure. Nevertheless, Arnold & Son’s long-standing manufacturing experience ensures that Nebula’s mechanical lacework is of the utmost finesse.
