Dominique Renaud Pulse60: the birth of a new era in watchmaking exploration

A new vision of time

The Dominique Renaud Pulse60 marks the official launch of the Dominique Renaud haute horlogerie brand, presented for the first time at the Time To Watches show in Geneva in April 2026. More than just a new model, the Pulse60 embodies the culmination of several years of research based on a simple but radical idea: rethinking the regulating organ by exploring the extremes of low frequency.

With this inaugural creation, Dominique Renaud offers a profoundly new interpretation of the watchmaking rhythm. The Pulse60 beats at 1 Hz, or 60 oscillations per minute, a cadence that naturally evokes the beating of a human heart at rest. This approach breaks with the contemporary trend for high frequency and favors another path: that of stability achieved through control of rhythm and inertia.

Dominique Renaud: an inventor at the heart of fine watchmaking

A major figure in contemporary watchmaking, Dominique Renaud is known for co-founding the Renaud & Papi manufacture, which has become one of the most influential centers for the development of complications for the great Swiss watchmakers. A prolific inventor, he has devoted his career to pushing the boundaries of watchmaking mechanics.

With the creation of Haute Horlogerie Dominique Renaud (HHDR), he is now opening a new chapter. This independent structure, based in Tolochenaz, in the heart of the Swiss watchmaking region, aims to develop disruptive watchmaking projects and to bring forth brands capable of sustainably renewing fine watchmaking.

The Pulse60 is the first complete expression of this vision.

A groundbreaking movement: the BUA2024 caliber

At the heart of the Pulse60 is an entirely new movement: the Dominique Renaud BUA2024 (Balancier Ultra Amplitude) caliber, whose development began in 2024.

The aim of this movement is to explore the benefits of an extremely low frequency of 1 Hz. In a traditional mechanical watch, the frequency generally oscillates between 2.5 Hz and 5 Hz. By drastically reducing the number of pulses per minute, Dominique Renaud limits shocks and disturbances to the escapement, allowing the balance wheel to operate in a more stable mechanical environment.

Each second thus becomes a fully structured unit of time, punctuated by a single back-and-forth movement of the balance wheel.

A monumental 20 mm balance wheel

To take full advantage of this low frequency, the Pulse60 is equipped with a 20 mm diameter balance wheel, which is exceptionally large for a wristwatch.

Inspired by the large balance wheels used in marine chronometers, it has very high inertia. Once set in motion, this balance wheel maintains its movement with remarkable stability and is more resistant to energy variations and micro-shocks.

This inertia acts as a true mechanical buffer, absorbing disturbances and smoothing out irregularities in the movement. Each oscillation thus becomes a broad and regular beat, offering an almost organic reading of time.

Ultra-amplitude: an unprecedented operating range

One of the major innovations of the Pulse60 lies in the complete redesign of the regulating organ.

In a classic movement, the amplitude of the balance wheel is mechanically limited: beyond a certain angle, the balance wheel causes a phenomenon called rebattement, which can disrupt the movement. Dominique Renaud has completely redesigned the balance wheel-escapement architecture to allow an amplitude greater than 360° without rebattement.

The Pulse60 can theoretically reach an amplitude of nearly 700 degrees, creating a operating range that is far removed from any mechanical limits. This exceptional margin improves static running stability and reduces the influence of micro-variations in energy on the regularity of the movement.

An architecture designed to reveal the mechanics

True to the principle that form follows function, the design of the Pulse60 showcases these mechanical innovations with great clarity.

On the dial side, an opening reveals the spectacular 20 mm balance wheel, the true visual heart of the watch. A patented system moves the escapement to the outside of the balance wheel to provide a completely unobstructed view of its oscillation.

The dial includes: On the back, the movement reveals a refined architecture made up of simple geometric shapes—circles, semicircles, and straight lines—that highlight the unique construction of the escapement.

  • an hour and minute display at 12 o’clock,
  • a seconds counter at 9 o’clock with a natural half-second deadbeat linked to the 1 Hz frequency,
  • a torque indicator at 3 o’clock, directly connected to the barrel to indicate the available power.

A fluid and contemporary aesthetic

The Pulse60 case reflects the same logic of mechanical continuity. It is distinguished by: The three-part construction comprises a central container to which the two integrated segments of the bracelet are attached.

  • A domed sapphire crystal,
  • The absence of a bezel,
  • Direct integration of the bracelet, with no visible lugs.

The design is subtly inspired by watches from the 1970s, a period dear to Dominique Renaud, with a circular satin-finished case top and polished sides creating a striking visual contrast.

Materials and finishes

The Dominique Renaud Pulse60 is available in two versions at launch: The integrated bracelet has been specially developed for this model and features a discreet and easy-to-use interchangeability system.

  • Titanium with gray or black opaline dial and diamond-cut openings
  • Titanium and rose gold with dial decorated with a contemporary interpretation of guilloché
