To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Spring Drive, Grand Seiko is expanding its sports collection with a new model inspired by the strength and power of the lion, the inseparable emblem of Grand Seiko. Produced in three limited editions, this new collection is available with two different Spring Drive calibres specially designed.
The lion, an inseparable emblem of the Grand Seiko
The Grand Seiko lion was born at the same time as the brand's first model in 1960. He wants to be in his image: precise, resistant, majestic and driven by a fierce determination. Its designers wanted to make it the "king of watchmaking". Symbolizing this inner strength, the Grand Seiko lion invites watchmakers to surpass themselves in all their creations
This symbolism of the lion appears on several levels: the massive case with angular lines, the claw-shaped horns and the subtle mane motif on the dial. The lion's emblem is also found on the 18-carat gold insert of the oscillating weight, which underlines the incredible precision of the movement specially adapted to this model (-0.5/+0.5 seconds per day).
A new housing design and unprecedented sporting performance
In addition to increased accuracy, this new series incorporates several features designed to enhance performance while providing readability and comfort. Thanks to its high resistance to impacts and temperature variations, the Spring Drive movement displays a daytime walk of 0.5 seconds, maintained even when practising sports. The hour, minute, second hands are resculpted and offer better readability. Readability is further enhanced by the application of Lumibrite on the hands, hour markers and bezel, and the use of a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The curved horns and the lowered centre of gravity of the case make the watch very comfortable to wear. Its comfort is optimal thanks to the use of thick H-shaped links that fit perfectly on the wrist.
