With the launch of the new Epic X collection in 2016, Jacob & Co. took a new direction, with novel shapes, new materials and a renewed state of mind. The design inspiration comes from the letter X, a symbol of mystery, the unknown and allure, capturing the energy of the brand at that time.

The Epic X Skeleton combines an essential watchmaking feature, the skeleton watch, with Jacob & Co’s radical design approach. The result: the Epic X Skeleton links inside and out, the movement and the 44 mm case. The X shape starts at the lugs, crosses the movement’s vertical bridges and ends at the other pair of lugs. Transparency, structure, innovation: three Jacob & Co. design guidelines united in the Epic X Skeleton.

From creative conception to design inspiration, from the first pencil stroke to hundreds of iterations, a unique piece comes to life. The four horns of the Epic X Skeleton are unique. Their shape, inclination and edges are the true signature of the Epic X Skeleton. They extend the exclusive skeleton movement, structured around two vertical bridges and framing a large void. The Epic X Skeleton is governed by design, as is the JCAM45 caliber. Functionally, it is an hour and minute movement. In spirit, its skeleton structure follows the X rule. It is light, technical and entirely focused on its form.

THE SKELETONIZED MOVEMENT AND FINISHING

The JCAM45 caliber has been specially developed for the Epic X Skeleton, offering maximum transparency thanks to its skeletonized shape. All normally solid components are hollowed out. Instead of a main plate, the entire movement is suspended on the two vertical bridges. Every visible component has a dual function: technical and aesthetic. The structure becomes the shape, design and identity of the Epic X Skeleton. The JCAM45 caliber receives surface finishes that serve its skeleton structure. In the absence of a flat surface, the color of the gear and bridge plating becomes essential. The beveling of the components is omnipresent, enhancing the structure and revealing it with glossy and matte edges.
