Laurent's opinion
The SP One was already a unique MB&F, featuring more classic proportions without sacrificing any of its spectacular architecture. This Pavée version adds a touch of luxury, perfectly balanced by the deep blue dial. The gem-setting accentuates the design without ever overshadowing the mechanics.

MB&F SP One Pavée: The Special Project One Adorns Itself with Diamonds

One year after the launch of the first SP One, MB&F unveils the SP One Pavée, a new interpretation of its 38-mm watch. The concept remains unchanged: a spectacular mechanical architecture built around three elements that appear to float within the case—the mainspring barrel, the balance wheel, and the inclined dial.

This 2026 edition, however, takes on a radically different character. Its 18-karat white gold case is set with diamonds that extend onto the inner surface, the crown, and the buckle. In total, 255 diamonds weighing 1.608 carats trace the curves of the SP One without obscuring its movement.

For this occasion, the slanted dial takes on a deep blue hue, creating a striking contrast with the white gold and the sparkle of the gemstones.

A 38-mm MB&F with three-dimensional architecture

With its 38-mm diameter, the SP One holds a special place in the MB&F universe. More compact and slimmer than the creations we’ve come to expect from the brand, it nevertheless retains all the architectural flair that defines its identity.

Its bezel-less case features soft, rounded shapes reminiscent of a pebble. The front and back sapphire crystals blend seamlessly into this design and offer a wide, unobstructed view of the movement.

The lugs also contribute to this sense of lightness. They extend from the lower part of the case and remain visually detached from its upper section.

The watch measures 12 mm thick and 41.9 mm from lug to lug—particularly compact proportions for such a three-dimensional mechanical creation.

255 diamonds integrated into the SP One’s architecture

On the SP One Pavée, MB&F did not simply add diamond setting to an existing watch. The diamonds directly complement the contours of the case and its internal architecture.

The case features 165 diamonds, plus 55 diamonds on the beveled side, 14 on the crown, and 21 on the white gold clasp.

In total, there are 255 diamonds weighing a combined 1.608 carats.

The diamond setting thus highlights the watch’s lines while allowing its movement to take center stage. The rhodium-plated, diamond-set side acts as a veritable amphitheater surrounding the suspended mechanical components.

Three elements that appear to float within the case

Before becoming the SP One, the project was codenamed “Three Circles”. This name perfectly encapsulates its architecture.

Three circular elements dominate the movement: the mainspring barrel, the balance wheel, and the dial. Their visually similar diameters and the understated design of the bridges create the impression that they are suspended inside the watch.

The balance wheel is positioned at the 2 o’clock mark, while the hour and minute dial is located at 6 o’clock.

The latter is angled and requires the use of a bevel gear, a technical solution that transmits the movement while preserving this unusual display.

On the SP One Pavée, the dial abandons the black finish of the early versions in favor of a deep blue PVD coating, which has become one of the hallmarks of this edition.

The SP One movement developed by MB&F

The SP One Pavée is powered by a hand-wound mechanical movement developed in-house by MB&F.

Its architecture was designed from the outset to showcase the mechanical components while minimizing the visual presence of the elements that support them.

The movement comprises 189 components and 31 jewels. Its balance wheel operates at a deliberately traditional frequency of 2.5 Hz, or 18,000 vibrations per hour.

The power reserve is 72 hours.

The movement also benefits from the level of finish associated with MB&F creations: hand-chamfered edges, recessed angles, polished surfaces, and hand-engraved details. For this Pavée version, the bridges feature a rhodium-plated finish.

The Special Project One Takes on a New Dimension

The Special Projects collection allows MB&F to explore a territory situated between the most radical Horological Machines and the more classic approach of the Legacy Machines.

The SP One is a perfect illustration of this. Its 38-mm diameter, hour-and-minute display, and relatively understated proportions might bring to mind a classic watch. But its suspended movement, slanted dial, and case construction immediately remind us that we are still in the world of MB&F.

With the SP One Pavée, this architecture takes on a more luxurious dimension. The gem-setting does not seek to transform the watch into a showpiece; rather, it complements its form and draws the eye even more toward what remains the true spectacle of the SP One—its movement.
