Laurent's opinion
A watch that doesn’t try to do too much—and that’s precisely what makes it so compelling. This jumping hour display is easy to read, straightforward, almost soothing, whereas many others unnecessarily complicate things

The Depth of Time

A jumping-hour watch born from a horological vision

To mark its tenth anniversary, Sartory-Billard unveils the SB10, a jumping-hour watch that embodies a new way of reading time—one that is refined, contemporary, and deeply sensory.

Stemming from the SB08 concept presented in 2024, this creation is part of an ongoing, ambitious exploration of watchmaking architecture. The goal: to rethink the display of time by moving away from the traditional dial in favor of an approach that is more legible, more intuitive, and more expressive.

With the SB10, this vision becomes reality. Not a simplification, but a true distillation of the initial idea: to offer a clear, almost instinctive reading of time, enhanced by the materials.

A jumping hour designed for readability

Jumping hour watches fascinate with their mechanical precision and immediacy. Yet their readability is often limited.

The SB10 takes the opposite approach.

At 6 o’clock, a large aperture reveals the hour on a sapphire disc. This deliberately enlarged window ensures immediate readability, enhanced by oversized numerals, twice as large as those typically used in this type of complication.

The result is unmistakable: a single glance is all it takes to read the time.

A watch without hands: a radical approach

The SB10 stands out due to the complete absence of hands.

The time display relies exclusively on two ultra-thin sapphire discs (approximately 0.2 mm):

  • An instant-jump hour disc, rotating 30° every 60 minutes
  • A continuously moving minute disc

This duality creates a unique experience:

  • on one hand, precise, punctuated, almost theatrical time
  • on the other, fluid and continuous time

Two rhythms coexist, defining the SB10’s singular identity.

Reading the minutes: a luminous orbit

The minutes are indicated by a disc that completes a full rotation every 60 minutes, accompanied by a red marker moving along a peripheral ring.

The ring is coated with Super-LumiNova BGW9, offering optimal readability in all conditions.

In the dark, the watch reveals a whole new dimension:

a turquoise halo surrounds the central cabochon, transforming the time display into an immersive and almost hypnotic visual experience.

Between watchmaking and jewelry: the central cabochon

The SB10 has no dial in the traditional sense.

In its place, a polished cabochon stands out as the central element. Inspired by jewelry, it has no mechanical function but plays an essential role in the watch’s identity.

Set like a precious stone, it captures light, draws the eye, and invites touch.

Its smooth or textured surface creates a physical connection with the object, transforming the watch into a tactile experience.

Each cabochon is unique and non-interchangeable, reinforcing the personal connection between the watch and its owner.

Black Sapphire Version: Depth and Mystery

In this version, the cabochon is crafted from smoky black sapphire.

Subtly translucent, it offers a glimpse of the internal architecture:

the hour disc, the mechanical module, and the typographic details.

Depending on the light, the effect shifts between transparency, opacity, and deep reflections, creating an aesthetic in perpetual motion.

At night, the luminescent ring accentuates this sense of depth, revealing a watch that is both minimalist and rich in nuance.

A precise and consistent automatic movement

The SB10 is powered by the La Joux-Perret G100 automatic caliber, paired with a patented jumping hour module that ensures a crisp, instantaneous jump.

The entire mechanism is housed in a 39.5 mm stainless steel case with balanced, contemporary proportions.

Every technical choice meets the same criteria:

consistency, legibility, and intention.
