ur-100v "blue planet
In order to combine substance and form, calculation and imagery, theory and observation of the universe, the UR-100V is adorned with blue: blue of the steel case, blue of the atypical movement, blue of the rotating carrousel. A blue evocative of our planet Earth.
The blue of the UR-100V “Blue Planet” is deep, dense and matt. Martin Frei confides to us: “When I create, when I paint, all colors find their resonance in me. But blue in particular. During my studies at the Academy of Arts and Design in Lucerne, I had the chance to study the great Florentine artist Giotto. He was the first to paint the sky blue at the end of the Middle Ages – dethroning the Byzantine gold. A painting, a “realistic” style that seems to us today to be self-evident. I like the color of this sky, the same as our planet. Blue is a color that surrounds us, that encompasses us. ”
Almost all of the movement’s components, including the automatic rotor coupled with its Windfänger propeller, and the entire satellite time display system are also blue, as are the technical canvas strap and buckle. As for the most visible screws, they are made of flame-blued titanium using a technique unique to the Baumgartner family. “My father has a cult following for the blueing of the hands. His search for the perfect blue was his quest for the Holy Grail. He tested all sands. Without exception. He finally found his perfect sand. Sand from Corsica that we religiously brought back in our suitcases when we returned from vacation,” says Felix Baumgartner.
On this almost uniform background, the fluorescent yellow and green needle head plays the shooting stars.
Metaphorical
The color of the UR-100V “Blue Planet” tells the story of an elevation, of the transition between Earth and space. “We have miniaturized and reinterpreted our universe. We have miniaturized and reinterpreted our universe. We lose ourselves in the depths of the carousel of this watch. It is a dive into space, a fall into nothingness. It’s a new watchmaking tale: our heads in the stars and our feet on the ground. A reverie in blue,” concludes Felix Baumgartner.
