Laurent's opinion
With the UR-150 Blue Scorpion, URWERK has reached new heights. It is a science fiction machine, a mechanical scorpion ready to strike, yet perfectly legible. The kind of piece that reminds us why URWERK remains one of the most radical and fascinating players in contemporary watchmaking.

The lethal sting of the Blue Scorpion: URWERK UR-150

URWERK continues to shake up the rules

URWERK has never followed convention. The independent watchmaker has built a global reputation by reinventing the way we read time with its unique satellite complications. With the new UR-150 Blue Scorpion, URWERK has created a true watchmaking blockbuster: a watch that combines extreme technical innovation, kinetic spectacle, and sculptural design.

The satellite complication reinvented

At the heart of the UR-150 Blue Scorpion, a mechanical drama unfolds with formidable precision. A flying carousel orbits three pivoting satellites, while a retrograde hand traverses 240° of the dial with each hour change.

Every sixty minutes, everything changes: the retrograde hand returns in a flash, while the satellites rotate 270° on their axis to reorganize time. This horological choreography takes place in a hundredth of a second, too fast for the eye to see but impossible to ignore.

As Martin Frei, co-founder and artistic director of URWERK, describes it:

“All the cards in the game of hours are shuffled and redistributed in a hundredth of a second. The dial transforms before our eyes, escaping our perception by its sheer speed. And each time, the wonder is reborn.”

A hypnotic mechanical spectacle

Under a domed sapphire crystal, the UR-150 Blue Scorpion reveals a spectacular movement:

  • Three hour satellites rotating in orbit,
  • A retrograde hand framing the active hour,
  • Millimeter-precise synchronization between cam, rack, and speed regulator.

This complex mechanical architecture serves a single purpose: legibility. Each satellite is tilted at 10° to offer perfect visibility, despite the extreme complexity of the mechanism.

Felix Baumgartner, master watchmaker and co-founder of URWERK, sums it up:

“True complexity lies not in the number of components, but in the precision of their interaction. Everything must work in harmony—power, inertia, fluidity—for the magic to happen.”

The aesthetic tension of the Blue Scorpion

Despite its venomous name, the UR-150 Blue Scorpion seduces with its balance of strength and elegance. Its fluid, organic lines extend from a sculptural case to an ergonomic rubber strap. The sapphire crystal perfectly hugs the silhouette, offering the eye direct access to the beating heart of the watch.

More than just a timepiece, the URWERK UR-150 Blue Scorpion is a living mechanical work of art, an alchemy of cutting-edge engineering and disruptive aesthetics. A watch designed for those who seek much more than an instrument for measuring time: a breathtaking horological experience.
