The UR-150 “Scorpion”, URWERK's new lethal mechanism
URWERK UR-150 “Scorpion”: Luxury Watch with Satellite Complication and Retrograde Mechanism
Discover the URWERK UR-150 “Scorpion”, a luxury watch that pushes the boundaries of modern watchmaking with its iconic satellite hour mechanism and avant-garde design. This innovative watch embodies the perfect fusion of technical precision and bold aesthetics. Equipped with a fast retrograde movement, the UR-150 not only displays the time, it redefines the way time is perceived.
A Retrograde Mechanism Inspired by the Scorpion
The URWERK UR-150 “Scorpion” watch takes its nickname from the analogy with this fearsome animal. Its retrograde minute hand, which extends over a 240° arc, imitates the scorpion’s tail ready to strike. At the 60th minute, the hand makes a rapid and precise jump back to zero, while the satellite hours rotate simultaneously. This dazzling transition takes place in a hundredth of a second, offering an impressive mechanical spectacle.
Harmonious, bold design
The URWERK UR-150 ‘s design is full of contrasts. Beneath its smooth, elegant curves lies a formidable mechanical performance. URWERK is renowned for its powerful animal analogies, and the UR-150 Scorpion is no exception. Felix Baumgartner, URWERK’s co-founder and master watchmaker, explains: “We like to marry extremes. The UR-150 ‘s design is gentle, but its mechanism is brutal, while retaining the URWERK spirit.”
The watch case and sapphire crystal harmonize with the curves of the wrist, creating a continuous line. This spherical design extends to the internal components, where the hour satellites and retrograde hand are also angled for improved legibility. “On this UR-150, you can read the time without having to twist your wrist. Everything is designed for optimum comfort”, explains Martin Frei, URWERK’s creative director and co-founder.
An exceptional retrograde system
The mechanism of the UR-150 “Scorpion” is one of the most ambitious ever created by URWERK. Its minute display, which covers a 240° arc, requires optimal use of energy to ensure perfect isochrony. The retrograde system, inspired by mechanical automata, is driven by a cam and spring specially developed in URWERK’s workshops. At each hour, the spring releases the energy needed to propel the minute hand backwards and rotate the satellite hours in a perfectly synchronized movement.
A speed regulator on the flying wheel dampens the rapid return of the retrograde hand, ensuring the smooth running of the movement. This regulator, often used in striking watches, ensures perfect control of the forces at play and preserves the precision of the movement.
High-level technical performance
The URWERK UR-150 is also equipped with an automatic winding system regulated by a double set of turbines. This device protects the rotor by absorbing shocks, guaranteeing rugged sturdiness. In this way, the watch combines performance, durability and technical innovation, essential elements for connoisseurs of cutting-edge watchmaking.
A Limited Edition Masterpiece
Produced in just 50 pieces, the URWERK UR-150 Scorpion is much more than a watch: it’s a horological work of art, destined for discerning collectors. Every detail of this luxury watch, from design to technical performance, has been thought out to offer a unique experience, where time becomes a fascinating mechanical spectacle.
