HAUTLENCE Sphere Series 3: Time in Three Dimensions

With the Sphere Series 3, HAUTLENCE reimagines one of its most spectacular creations in a more compact format. This mechanical watch with a three-dimensional display combines spherical hours, retrograde minutes, and a skeletonized movement in a design characteristic of the Neuchâtel-based manufacturer.

Produced in a limited edition of just 28 pieces, the HAUTLENCE Sphere Series 3, ref. DA82-TI00, features a rectangular Grade 5 titanium case measuring 37 x 45 mm and a spectacular purple hour sphere.

A New, More Compact Design

HAUTLENCE’s iconic rectangular silhouette remains instantly recognizable, but its proportions have been entirely reimagined. Measuring 37 mm wide by 45 mm long, the Sphere Series 3 houses its complex mechanism within a more compact and comfortable-to-wear case.

Crafted from Grade 5 titanium with alternating satin-finished and polished surfaces, the case features a highly architectural design. The generously sized sapphire crystal offers a bird’s-eye view of the movement, while the transparent case back allows the hand-wound caliber to be observed.

Despite the complexity of its construction, the Sphere Series 3 is water-resistant to 10 ATM, or 100 meters.

A sphere to display the hours

The defining feature of this HAUTLENCE watch is found on the left side of the dial: the hours are not indicated by a conventional hand, but by a rotating three-dimensional sphere.

Composed of two polished Grade 5 titanium shells with a violet finish, it rotates along three axes. Its mechanism relies in particular on four bevel gears operating around two crossed axes inclined at 21 degrees.

The hour markers are engraved into the sphere and filled with white Super-LumiNova®, ensuring readability in the dark.

This complication transforms the time display into a true mechanical animation: the sphere continuously changes position while always showing the wearer the correct time.

Retrograde Minutes

On the right, HAUTLENCE contrasts the sphere’s three-dimensional rotation with a linear display of the retrograde minutes.

The grade 5 titanium hand, satin-finished and treated with violet PVD, moves along a suspended minute track before instantly returning to its starting point at the end of each hour.

The Globolight® minute numerals appear to float above the movement thanks to their placement on an intermediate sapphire dial.

The contrast between the constantly moving hour sphere and the retrograde return of the minute hand gives the watch a particularly spectacular dynamic.

A dial that fully reveals the mechanics

HAUTLENCE makes no attempt to conceal its mechanism. The rhodium-plated brass base dial is fully skeletonized and features a frosted finish.

Gear trains, the retrograde mechanism, the free-wheel, and the snail-shaped gear all contribute directly to the watch’s aesthetic. The mechanics thus become an integral part of the dial.

The skeletonization of the barrel and ratchet also allows the tension of the mainspring to be observed and provides an intuitive visual indication of the power reserve status.

HAUTLENCE A82 Hand-Wound Caliber

To complement the new dimensions of the Sphere Series 3, HAUTLENCE has developed the mechanical Caliber A82, a hand-wound movement specially adapted to this compact architecture.

Comprising 160 components and 31 jewels, it oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and delivers a minimum power reserve of 72 hours.

The movement also incorporates a safety mechanism designed to protect the mechanism from improper handling when setting the time in the reverse direction.
