Kollokium Projekt 01 Variant H: The Ultimate Evolution of the Projekt 01’s Illumination

With the Kollokium Projekt 01 (K,P–No. 01) Variant H, Kollokium brings the first chapter of an adventure that began in 2023 to a close. Limited to 399 pieces, this new variation brings together several elements that have gradually shaped the identity of the Projekt 01: the original black dial, the more abstract graphic composition introduced with the Variant F, and the Lichtblock™ luminescent technology.

Variant H takes this technology to its most spectacular expression. Its dial features 488 cylindrical Lichtblock™ elements, available in six different sizes and individually applied by hand. In daylight, they form a black, relief-like topography; in the dark, their blue luminescence radically transforms the watch’s face.

488 Lichtblock™ Elements to Construct the Dial

The dial of the Kollokium Projekt 01 Variant H does not rely on conventional hour markers. Its surface is composed of 488 Lichtblock™ cylinders, whose variations in diameter and height create a true three-dimensional landscape beneath the box-type sapphire crystal.

Each element is individually positioned by hand. This accumulation of volumes gives the dial an unusual depth and reinforces the architectural approach that has characterized the Projekt 01 since its launch.

The Lichtblock™, introduced by Kollokium in 2025, is a hybrid material combining ceramic and resin. The luminescent material is thus no longer simply applied to the dial: it becomes an integral part of its construction.

Two grams of Super-LumiNova GBW9

The Variant H uses approximately 2 grams of Super-LumiNova GBW9 for a single dial, a considerable amount by watchmaking standards.

By way of comparison, one gram is usually sufficient to produce several hundred traditional dials when Super-LumiNova is used solely to print twelve hour markers.

Here, the luminescent material is distributed throughout the 488 Lichtblock™ elements. In the dark, they emit an intense blue light and reveal an architecture entirely different from that seen in daylight.

The hour and minute hands also incorporate Lichtblock™ elements, ensuring visual continuity between the time display and the dial’s relief.

A black dial that harks back to the origins of the Projekt 01

The Projekt 01 Variant H returns to the black of Kollokium’s earliest creations, notably the Friends & Family edition that marked the project’s debut in 2023.

But this nod to its origins is accompanied by three years of evolution. The more abstract layout of the dial elements, developed with the Variant F, is combined here with the most extensive use of Lichtblock™ on a Projekt 01 dial to date.

The result constantly plays on two perceptions. In the light, the watch appears dark, graphic, and almost mineral-like. In the dark, the hundreds of blue dots take over and completely redraw its surface.

Kollokium’s Neo-Brutalist Aesthetic

The Kollokium Projekt 01 watch has, from its very inception, broken free from many of the usual conventions of watchmaking.

Its steel case is produced by die-casting, a process that directly contributes to its industrial character. Kollokium claims a neo-brutalist approach for this design, in which the manufacturing process and the material are an integral part of the design.

The box-style sapphire crystal extends this architectural concept. Its shape accentuates the depth of the dial and allows one to observe the variations in elevation among the hundreds of Lichtblock™ elements.

The case, crystal, and dial are thus conceived as different parts of a single object, rather than as a series of independent components.

The Final Variant of the First Chapter of Projekt 01

After nearly three years of experimentation, the Kollokium Projekt 01 Variant H represents the final iteration of the original Projekt 01 design.

It combines the black dial of the earliest models, the graphic design developed across the various variants, and the Lichtblock™, which has become one of Kollokium’s most recognizable signatures.

Produced in a limited edition of 399 pieces, the Variant H does not mark the end of the Projekt 01. It brings the first chapter to a close before Kollokium continues its evolution.

A particularly fitting conclusion for a watch that, from its very beginnings, has made matter, volume, and light its playground for experimentation.
