The Louis Erard Email Grand Feu Regulator: An Ode to Handcrafted Horological Excellence
Louis Erard proudly presents its emblematic creation, Le Régulateur Louis Erard Email Grand Feu, an exceptional timepiece that skilfully blends traditional craftsmanship with high-flying contemporary watchmaking.
For the first time in the brand’s history, Louis Erard has chosen to embellish its regulator with a Grand Feu enamel dial, perpetuating an age-old watchmaking tradition. Housed in a polished stainless steel case 39 mm in diameter, this sublime ivory dial is crafted using the age-old techniques of the prestigious Donzé Cadrans S.A. The sub-dials for the hours at noon and the seconds at six o’clock add an extra touch of elegance, accentuating the finesse of the two-tone enamel details. The subtle discontinuity of the numerals, in harmony with the brand’s new contemporary identity, completes the ensemble.
Limited to just 99 pieces, Le Régulateur Louis Erard Email Grand Feu celebrates the very essence of artisanal watchmaking. The age-old, complex technique of Grand Feu enamel lends this watch an exceptional aura. Louis Erard has taken up this technical and artistic challenge in collaboration with Donzé Cadrans, a leader in this field since 1972. The specific use of ivory enamel reflects the brand’s concern for perfection, with every detail meticulously thought out and realized.
The enamel, composed of various minerals, is finely ground before being deposited on a metal base. This mixture is then vitrified in a melting process in a furnace heated to around 800°C, hence the name “Grand Feu”. To obtain a smooth, uniform surface, several successive layers are applied, each requiring a firing cycle. This painstaking work requires years of practice to master, as the material can prove capricious and unpredictable, despite the expertise of the craftsmen. Each firing can result in imperfections such as roughness, cracks or bubbles, making each enamel dial unique.
Authentic Grand Feu enamel, naturally exclusive and limited, will never be mass-produced. Each dial is made by hand, piece by piece, far from any industrial logic. Because of its artisanal manufacturing process, each enamel dial offers a unique and inimitable rendering, making each watch an exceptional timepiece.
The Louis Erard Régulateur Email Grand Feu embodies the perfect union between tradition and innovation in watchmaking. Accessible to a wider public thanks to its competitive price, this watch remains a tribute to the traditional craftsmanship and passion for innovation that have driven Louis Erard for decades.
