The Memento Mori is often seen as a symbol of death. I see it as exactly the opposite: a celebration of life. This watch is fatalistic, rock ‘n’ roll, a little sassy, and completely free. If death is a certainty, we might as well meet it with a smile and enjoy every moment.
Louis Erard x Chronopassion Memento Mori, Limited Edition of 8 pieces
Memento Mori. Remember that you will die.
For centuries, this phrase has accompanied artists, philosophers, and creators—not as an invitation to fear, but as a reminder to live life to the fullest. It is in this spirit that Louis Erard and Chronopassion have created this limited edition of just eight pieces.
At the center of the design sits a skull sculpted in relief from black mother-of-pearl with subtle bluish hues. Depending on the light, it appears, fades, and then reappears, like an elusive presence reminding us of the ephemeral nature of all things. The depth of the craftsmanship applied to the material gives the dial an almost hypnotic presence.
The fully engraved case transforms each watch into a true wearable work of art. Every detail contributes to a dark, refined, and deliberately provocative aesthetic. The crown, positioned on the left, further reinforces this extraordinary personality, defying conventions as a manifesto of independence.
On the back, the automatic movement is visible through a sapphire caseback adorned with a winking smiley face. A deliberately offbeat detail that perfectly captures the spirit of this creation. Faced with the gravity of Memento Mori, Louis Erard and Chronopassion opt for irony. Is death inevitable? Very well. We might as well respond with a smile.
Fatalistic, certainly. Morbid, never.
This watch embodies the attitude of rock musicians, cursed poets, and free spirits: to look death in the face, then burst out laughing. It does not celebrate the end, but rather the urgency of living life to the fullest. A rare, irreverent, and deeply human creation, intended for those who know that the only victory over time is to never stop enjoying it.
Memento Mori, certainly. But with a smile.
