Louis Erard x Konstantin Chaykin Unfrogettable Brown: The Frog in a New Shade

The Louis Erard x Konstantin Chaykin Unfrogettable Brown reveals a darker, warmer side of the creation born from the collaboration between Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin.

Produced in a limited run of just 178 pieces, this edition combines shades of brown, ochre, and rose gold with the regulator display that serves as the face of the Unfrogettable.

The design remains instantly recognizable: two moving counters form the frog’s eyes, a large central hand indicates the minutes, and the crown at 12 o’clock literally becomes the character’s crown. But the choice of colors profoundly transforms its expression.

A Brown, Ochre, and 5N Face

While the Turquoise version features a vibrant, electric aesthetic, the Unfrogettable Brown favors deeper tones.

The base of the dial features a light brown with a grained finish, surrounded by a two-tone flange combining dark brown and ochre. The two circular counters are finished in a deeper brown with a satin finish.

The 5N finishes on the discs and the large central hand lend a warm metallic tone that contrasts with the dial’s various shades.

The dark brown hour markers further enhance the face’s character, while the green Super-LumiNova C5 accents allow the Frog to maintain its presence once the lights go out.

When the Regulator Becomes a Face

The Unfrogettable reimagines the traditional architecture of a regulator watch to create an instantly recognizable display.

The hour disc is positioned at 9 o’clock and the second disc at 3 o’clock. They become the character’s two moving eyes, continuously changing its expression as time passes.

The minutes are indicated at the center by a long, arrow-shaped hand with a 5N finish.

This integration of mechanics and design is at the heart of the project: no face is simply printed on the dial. It is the time-telling elements themselves that bring the creature to life.

Grade 5 Titanium and 5N PVD-Coated Crown

The case of the Unfrogettable Brown is machined from Grade 5 titanium. Its satin-finished surfaces alternate with polished elements to highlight its contours.

Its 40 mm diameter is paired with a length of 46.50 mm and a thickness of 12.45 mm.

The distinctive feature of this version appears at 12 o’clock. The crown, inspired by a royal crown, is finished with a 5N PVD coating that echoes the warm tones of the dial elements.

The transparent case back reveals the automatic movement and bears the unique engraving “LOUIS ERARD KONSTANTIN CHAYKIN 1 OF 178.”

A Sellita automatic movement

At the heart of this Unfrogettable lies the Sellita SW266-1 automatic caliber, in the “Elaboré” grade.

The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, features 31 jewels, and delivers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.

Its openworked oscillating weight is specially decorated for Louis Erard, with the brand’s symbol rendered in black lacquer.

More than just a mechanical choice, the caliber plays a direct role in the watch’s design, as it allows the hours and seconds to occupy their two independent counters and form the Unfrogettable’s signature “eyes.”

Himeji Kurozan Leather and Japanese Tradition

The strap also contributes to the unique identity of this collaboration.

Crafted from black Himeji Kurozan leather, it comes from a historic Japanese tannery. The calfskin is hand-crafted, naturally tanned, and then finished with Urushi lacquer using traditional techniques.

Its surface alternates between matte and glossy effects, evoking the appearance of Japanese armor.

Unlike the Turquoise version with its purple accents, the Unfrogettable Brown features an all-black strap, with black stitching and lining, allowing the brown and 5N tones of the dial to take center stage.

The Unfrogettable Brown thus retains the Frog’s sense of humor and eccentricity while giving it a darker, warmer, and almost nocturnal presence.
